Thank you so much for writing this, Pam. I, too, suffered/suffer from depression, particularly during my first marriage. My husband was an NRA member, a staunch gun advocate, and an owner of several firearms. At my worst, I cut myself and considered various methods of suicide but refused to consider suicide by gun because I’d come to hate them so much. But, even with my I intense hatred of firearms, I always knew easy access made them an option. In the back of my mind, what I detested the most was still a viable solution to my pain.
Guns are too available, too common, too easy. When there is the tiniest thought of ending it all, guns are the simplest solution because our society values second amendment rights, which are extremely questionable, more than life.
Tragically, that is who we have become.
People die every day because our priorities are so fucked up.
