Thanks, Erik! Captain Argentina stole my heart first, though 😉

I had a friend here in town who had a spoken word poetry group called ThirdEyeSpoken. Isn’t that the greatest name?! Her group taught unofficial poetry classes at one of the local high schools. Every year the students put on a show that was phenomenal. ThirdEyeSpoken also performed once or twice a year. Unfortunately, my friend decided to take her life in a different direction and no one kept the group going.

I also was on the board of directors for a feminist bookstore here that hosted poetry jams once a month. Unfortunately, the store closed.

There is still one place in town that has weekly poetry jams but they are on Thursdays and start too late for those of us with regular jobs.

Most of the spoken word poetry I hear now is on YouTube.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
