Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience, Tom. Later in 1970, I was living in rural Virginia when integration was finally enforced as the law intended. The transformation of my high school was disruptive but surprisingly smooth. Sure, there were a few issues but compared to many locations, we made the change with no serious problems. To me, the inclusion of African-American children made our school more interesting and engaging.
