The mountain was near Mayagüez and they definitely didn’t have money for a generator or air conditioning, for that matter. The one time I visited, I was shocked at their poverty and the poverty of people around them. My daughter said the power went out randomly nearly every week, no storms necessary. I don’t believe any official tropical storms hit while she was there, although a few skimmed the coast, but just the normal afternoon storms would take out the power for hours. She and the children were in a bad situation in so many ways. Fortunately, they came home to Florida after less than 2 years. Two of the longest and saddest years of my life.
