There are three restaurants in our town that my husband and I frequent more than others. Like you, we’ve established a relationship of sorts with the servers and the owners. We eat at these places usually once a week. We are missed when we don’t appear as usual and we miss them. It’s surprisingly sad when a server leaves without the chance to say goodbye and wish them well.

It’s these types of casual but meaningful relationships that make a town or a city a community.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
