Therese, I am so sorry that you are in the path of those terrible fires and that your farm has been threatened multiple times! And, I am sorry that you can identify with my little poem — it’s not a happy one.

Many years ago, fires threatened our city and the surrounding area where I was living at the time. We’d had three or more years of drought conditions. Thousands of acres of a national forest were destroyed, as well as several homes. Fortunately, the fire was contained before it was a threat to entire communities.

Even though that experience was much less horrific than yours, I can identify a little with the fear you face. I hope you and your property stay safe, and I hope that our governments begin to take climate change seriously before it is too late for all of us.
