Were I retired and had the time, I might add other sorts of writing to my Medium work, but time is what I lack. Research writing is incredibly time-consuming and, like you, not what I want to do. Having worked for attorneys most of my life, I’ve done enough research, and to do more feels like a continuation of my workday at home. No, thanks.

At this point in my life, especially since I work with numbers all day, being creative is what I crave.

I must admit, I haven’t felt inspired to write much on Medium recently. Squeezing in writing during long workdays and jam-packed weekends, when I usually continue working, isn’t easy, but writing creatively gave me the energy and inspiration to find snippets (your word!) of time. I was also motivated by believing I was building a future as a writer, a future that would allow me to decrease the time I spend in my business and, perhaps, retire from it completely.

Now, when I arrive home at 7 or 8 pm, there is no impetus to write.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
