What a great story, Louise! My first car was a 1968 Chevrolet Covair Convertible that my stepmom bought in 1972 when I graduated high school. It was ridiculously impractical considering we lived in Maine. It didn't last long, though. Driving it on the interstate about two months later, smoke began pouring out of the hood. I don't recall what was wrong but it couldn't be repaired. Only solution was a new engine. My stepmother sold it to a mechanic and bought me a 1969 Toyota Corolla that lasted for years. I was grateful that my stepmom was with me that day on the interstate so she knew the death of the car was not my fault!
