What a wonderful story, Irene!

I looked up the golden silk orb weaver and found out it is one of many related spiders also commonly known as banana spiders. The spiders I’ve always known as banana spiders are yellow and black only and larger than the one I photographed. When we moved into a rental home 14 years ago, the backyard, which wasn’t used by the previous tenants, was overflowing with the black and yellow banana spiders! I’d never seen so many in one relatively small space. They are highly aggressive and their bite is mildly poisonous. Took us weeks to get rid of them all. Very creepy!
