When I adopted my daughter as a teenager, she was involved with the JW’s. It took months of tender love and persuasion to encourage her to break away. Fortunately, she was fairly new to their fold and not deeply indoctrinated. You were brave to leave as you did.

I have former in-laws who were sucked in and changed everything about their lives to conform to the JW beliefs and, in doing so, disconnected from all their family and friends. Their sons were raised being homeschooled and only associating with JWs. The last time I saw them, many years ago, the boys were incapable of engaging in the simplest conversation that didn’t have to do with the church and its doctrine. They were antisocial and unemotional, almost robot-like. So sad.
