When I first imagined this prompt, I wondered if it was inspirational enough, if it would present enough material. Then, I thought of shadows in all their uses and forms, realizing that the "shadow well" would never run dry. You covered almost every possibility here, Anne, and I love your presentation, including the out-of-this-world photos and all your takes on shadows.

I chuckled in the beginning when you mentioned English has two words - shadow and shade - for basically the same thing, only used in slightly different instances for no particular reason. My husband, whose first language is Spanish, has been speaking English for more than 40 years, yet he still tends to say "shadow" when I say "shade". I thought of that, too, when I chose the prompt.

Although, honestly, I am adapting to his use of "shadow", finding myself choosing that word more often than I used to.

He also uses "floor" when I would say "ground" - as in:

Did you see that branch on the floor?

I haven't adopted that yet! ;)

That's for this fantastic reply to the prompt, Anne.
