Where Angels Fear, I never thought about the size of the U.S. and how moving from one state to another or even from one area of a state to another is similar to traveling between countries in other continents. Long ago, I worked with a woman from Scotland. She used to be a travel agent there and marveled at how we could travel so far and experience different cultures within our country with no need of a passport and no language or currency issues. Certainly it is true that the culture in Maine, where I once lived, is completely different than here in Florida, and North Florida is completely different than South Florida. Actually, the culture in the rural county where I lived is nothing like the culture here in the city — like night and day.
I totally appreciate the fact that leaving my husband and moving from the country to the city was huge. Although, I always worked in this city, living here was a tremendous change in my lifestyle, and, fortunately, a positive one.
And, baggage, yep, we all have it. Some always tags along like a younger sibling- demanding attention and whining when attention is withheld!
