You are so right, Dan, changes must be made to stop carnage. No other country experiences the internal violence that the United States has.

Guns are abundant and easy to acquire. That's a fact. And, mental illness is on the rise. But, at the root of the mental illness issue is the problem of health insurance. Even people who seek help cannot always afford to get it or there are no mental health clinics and doctors in their area. Parents of some teenager shooters said they were concerned about their kid and couldn't get help.

We need national health care. We need more mental health clinics and education. The police and everyone who works in schools need to be instructed on signs of mental illness and how to handle depressed, anxious, violent, or withdrawn students. There must be avenues for treatment.

And, guns must be controlled. Every person who wants to own a gun should have to take classes, pass a test, and receive a license before making a purchase. Why should using a gun be treated any differently than driving a car?

As long as guns are abundant and easy to obtain and as long as EVERY PERSON doesn't have health care and access to mental heath evaluations and treatments we will never stop mass shootings and general violence in this country.
