Your honesty drips from your words, Dave. This piece is full of heart and fear and hope.
My husband and I adopted two ten-year-old dogs in July. We already had a 14-year-old Pekingese and had recently lost a 16-year-old mutt. As the retiree in our home, he was the dog walker. But, the two new-to-us dogs walk longer and faster than our Peke so we divide up the dog-walking now. I take the younger, faster ones and he walks the older, slower one. My pups and I are averaging 16 miles a week (Because I work long hours and can’t always make it home for the noon and 5 pm romps, my husband usually covers those. First walking the sisters, then the Peke.) I’ve lost 12 lbs without doing anything else.
Also, I am a firm believer that making your bed every morning is one of the most positive habits to develop. To me, it sets my intention for the rest of the day and coming home to a neat bed simply feels very good.
Best of luck with your life adjustments. I’m glad I discovered you here on Medium.
