Polenta is common in Italian cooking. Ben is from Argentina where these is a strong Italian influence in their recipes. He makes thick polenta and we spoon his Italian sauce of it. Yummy!
Here in the South, we eat grits which are similar but made with fine white cornmeal, while polenta is usually coarser yellow cornmeal. Southerners eat grits either for breakfast or with fish. Grits are white and mushier than polenta. To me, polenta is hardier and more flavorful.
