Zada, I applaud you for standing up for what is right and for using your money to fight for what is right and to punish what is wrong.

I work with people who are in shock that I actually research companies and products, stores and businesses, and refuse to spend my money anywhere that is contrary to my convictions. To me, the shock is: How can anyone not do that? Our finances are the most powerful weapon we have on a daily basis. To not use our spending power to send messages strips us of one of the few powers ordinary people have.

I am not a Harry Potter fan — couldn’t even get through the first book — but I’ve always admired JK Rowling and her story. Like you, I now feel differently. I would never have expected her to be so small-minded and cruel.
